Legislative elections

The legislative elections will be held in two rounds to elect representatives to the National Assembly.

The roles of these deputies are :

• to pass laws,
• to table bills,
• to table amendments.

They also have access to Government control through :

• their right to put questions to the Government,
• evaluating public policies and publishing recommendations on them,
• the tabling of a motion of censure against the Government (if an absolute majority of MPs vote in favour of the motion of censure, it is carried and the Prime Minister must tender the Government's resignation to the President of the Republic).

Together with at least 59 other MPs, an MP may refer the matter to the Constitutional Council for a ruling on whether the text voted on complies with the Constitution.

Together with the senators, they form the High Court. This body has the power to order the impeachment of the President of the Republic.
